Address : Mdm Kwan, The Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur
My Score: 9/10
Madam Kwan is a popular restaurant in KL, many of our friends know about and had recommended it to us.
We were lucky to be able to meet her in person, and our whole family took a photo with her! She is 76 and comes to the restaurant every day wearing a round hat. If you see her please help us say hello and tell her our baby girl was the one who keeps wanting to give her her sausage roll. :)
OK, back to the food. One thing about Malaysia is the Nasi Lemak all tastes so so nice (no surprise actually)! Even the average breakfast place near our hotel that we just walked in one day sells very fragrant Nasi Lemak. So it was quite a surprise that we actually find that Madam Kwan's Nasi Lemak clearly distinguishes itself on the 1st mouthful!
From the very 1st mouthful of the rich, fragrant coconut rice, we detected something different. It was not JUST more coconut milk in the rice. We were very sure there is some other ingredient mixed in with the coconut milk, but we couldn't figure out what it was. But whatever it was, it made the rice even more fragrant and even more tasty! The accompanying ikan bilis and curry chicken are all high quality "accompaniments", but beside the unique rice fragrant, we can't really remember much about it! :p
As a side note, they have another Nasi Bojari, which we tried too. Also very good! The beef rendang comes in strips and is so tasty, you keep wanting to put a few slice in between each mouthful of rice to chew it with! But as always, I would like to just concentrate on THE BEST food in each restaurant, and that would be the Nasi Lemak! :p
If you are in KL, this is a definitely must try! Besides, it is not as expensive as some of the other restaurants in The Pavilion!
